Tonsil.... stones?

I found out something horrible today... Something I had never known existed... Something that seriously scarred me for life. Since discovering this, I've debated offing myself, but that might be a bit drastic. But for real though. I. Want. To. Die. And I want to ruin all of your lives with this information, too.

I was watching TV, minding my own business, when suddenly I felt like I had something stuck in the back of my throat. I tried swallowing, drinking water, and even sticking my finger down my throat, but nothing would get rid of the horrible feeling. My boyfriend got out the flashlight on his phone and took a look, and to both of our horror... I have tonsil stones. When I asked him what they were, he responded with, "You don't want to know." Horrified, I took a look in the mirror, and I immediately wanted death.

These things are more common than people realize. My boyfriend confessed to me that he had them too, and we both spent 20 minutes in the bathroom trying to get them out with q-tips. He got his out--apparently he's a pro at it since he's had them for years. But despite all of my q-tip attempts, my gargling salt water, etc. I can't get mine out. I can still feel them in the back of my throat, itching, and now my tonsils are inflamed and hurting from trying so hard to get them with a q-tip. I don't know what the hell I'm going to do now. Maybe I'll join the circus? Maybe I'll cry for hours tonight? Maybe I'll get drunk to try and forget the pain?

If you guys really want to torment yourselves, shine your flashlight into your mouth and have a look in the mirror. I'm sure about half of you have them. And then you'll want to die, too.

......OFG you know I consider you a close friend, one of the few on this board to be called such with certainty.

And now I am not going to be able to sleep trying to make sure I don't develop these things.

Damn you, OFG!!!!!! *shakes fist at sky*

Do you mean your tonsils or your uvula? Pretty sure you can't actually see your tonsils. I check my uvula every night before I brush my teeth. No issues so far.

No, it's your tonsils. Shine a flashlight in your mouth and hold down your tongue with one finger. It'll be the tissues on either side of your uvula.

All this thread did was make me focus on my throat, and notice a lump. But hey, I ain't gonna worry about it. Medical issues don't even phase me, along with many other things.

Besides, I'm at work. What am I gonna do, close up shop to go to the doctor? Not unless I'm lying on the floor bleeding or something similarly drastic.

Hopefully that goes away for you. Along with the emotions. Though I must ask, why does it make you trip out so?

I'm easily disgusted by anything going on in my mouth... I remember when I had my wisdom teeth taken out, I entered a two week long depression. So nasty, dude.

I don't have tonsil stones, however I used to get food stuck in one, because it's like... Cut in half. The other one is perfectly fine and I haven't had food there since I was like, 10, but it still looks cut in half. I can still see the part where the food used to get stuck but it seems to be closed off? I dunno, tonsils are strange...

Yeah, it's basically just food and bacteria getting stuck in there and calcifying.

I don't have them now anymore then, but I also don't remember feeling anything you described.

I get them sometimes too. It's build up of discharge in the tonsil ducts. It feels really weird because it hardens and stays lodged in crevices in your throat.

I usually only get them when I'm about to get sick with a throat thing.
